After what felt like years of drama in Minnesota, Jimmy Butler was finally granted his trade request to a (pseudo) contender last week. In Philadelphia he teams up with Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons to create one of the most intriguing big three’s in the league, however the fit is far from seamless.
In his first game in a Sixers uniform Butler operated mostly off the ball and had minimal creation opportunities in the half court. While this will likely grow over time, we anticipate the feeling out phase to continue against Utah. While the Jazz’s defence has slipped this year they are have strong wing defenders and one of the elite rim protectors in the league to challenge Butler at the basket. At least for the next couple of games we see Butler playing his role and deferring to Embiid before exerting the full force of his will.
